Also known as Kosteletzkya pentacarpos, Seashore Mallow, Virginia Saltmarsh Mallow

Short lived, showy perennial up to 4 feet tall, pink flowers. Broadleaf, leaves disappear in winter.

Install at waterline or above. Tolerates mild salinity, less than 5 ppt.

Description: It is salt tolerant and grows in brackish waters, but may occur in freshwater as well. It will grow in shallow standing water and also occur in wet ditches.

Companion species in brackish waters: Spartina patens (Saltmeadow Cordgrass), Distichlis spicata (Saltgrass), Spartina alterniflora (Smooth Cordgrass), and Spartina cynosuroides (Big Cordgrass).

Companion species in freshwater: Hibiscus moscheutos (Crimson-Eyed Rosemallow) and Schoenplectus pungens (Three-Square).

Wetland Indicator Status: OBL (Almost always occurs in wetlands)
