Caring for plants after installation
If a pond or wetland is functioning as designed and holding the correct amount of water, very little maintenance of the plants themselves should be required.
This means:
- No fertilizer
- No lime
- No irrigation except for the 6 weeks after installation (for plants installed above the waterline during dry summers)
- No pesticide
- No herbicide except for spot treatment of Cattails, unwanted woody plants, and non-native invasive species
- No trimming mowing or thinning of the installed plants
Goose management may be required until the pond or wetland has become dense. Once dense, the plants themselves will discourage the geese, and the plants will be able to outgrow any browse that does occur.
